"If any man would come after me let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me" (Mt. 16: 24). It is a call to discipleship. We respond to this by our constant self-surrender and by our intimacy with Jesus our Master. We are called to respond to this discipleship through the evolving needs of our ministry. Our ministries have moved into
various fields - education; health care; women empowerment; human dignity, justice related to and for the poor and stewardship within our dioceses.
"Religious life constitutes a closer imitation and an abiding re-enactment in the Church. Jesus instructed his disciples to "Follow Him". (cf. LG. 44). The religious life of the congregation is a visible sign of Christ's life and his Church in action.
Our mission is to preach, proclaim and contemplate God's word openly to his people. We are "sent out into the harvest" as the apostles and disciples were sent by Jesus; Our ministry, is to "serve." So we become a voice of Jesus to "proclaim the Word."
HISTORY OF THE DAUGHTERS OF MARY
The Congregation of “the Daughters of Mary” is a missionary Congregation founded in the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church in the Archdioceses of Trivandrum with the intention of preaching the Good News among the non-Christians. The Congregation is working for Christian unity, according to the teachings and spirit of the Second Vatican Council and the directives of the Apostolic See by imitating Jesus Christ who is pure and poor and has assured the vision of God to those who are pure at heart and gave the Good News to the poor.
The Congregation which was started at Marthandom in 1938 by Rev. Msgr. Joseph Kuzhinjalil with the blessing of the late Archbishop His Grace Mar Ivanios, the architect of the Re-union Movement; was officially approved by His Holiness Pope Pius XI. Mother Mary Kallarackal, the Co-foundress, Sr. Agnes Vadakkan and Sr. Theresa Kochukalayil were the first members of the Congregation. They worked tirelessly and followed a strict religious community life, to give witness to the presence, love and divine providence of God to their contemporary society, which was poor, helpless and illiterate.
It accomplishes its mission through multiple pathways, in order to provide gateways for people from different religious, economical and social backgrounds and life styles, to achieve their life's aspirations. To maximize success in their outcomes for all, the congregation provides quality services in teaching, welfare and community engagement, through the delivery of personalized support systems and collaborative partnerships with dioceses and other networks. The Congregation adopts the following values to guide their mission of being" Pure and poor for the kingdom of God." This value statement underpins the day-to-day missionary activities that make them a vibrant missionary Congregation. They are committed to making these values real, for the socially marginalized and disadvantaged within the community.
On 1968 July 15 the Congregation of the Daughters of Mary was affiliated to the Franciscan Friar Minor Capuchin Congregation. In 1987, The Congregation was restructured into two major Provinces. They are
