HISTORY OF THE DAUGHTERS OF MARY
The Congregation of “the Daughters of Mary” is a missionary Congregation founded in the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church in the Archdioceses of Trivandrum with the intention of preaching the Good News among the non-Christians. The Congregation is working for Christian unity, according to the teachings and spirit of the Second Vatican Council and the directives of the Apostolic See by imitating Jesus Christ who is pure and poor and has assured the vision of God to those who are pure at heart and gave the Good News to the poor. The Congregation which was started at Marthandom in 1938 by Rev. Msgr. Joseph Kuzhinjalil with the blessing of the late Archbishop His Grace Mar Ivanios, the architect of the Re-union Movement; was officially approved by His Holiness Pope Pius XI. Mother Mary Kallarackal, the Co-foundress, Sr. Agnes Vadakkan and Sr. Theresa Kochukalayil were the first members of the Congregation. They worked tirelessly and followed a strict religious community life, to give witness to the presence, love and divine providence of God to their contemporary society, which was poor, helpless and illiterate.                                    >>more
